Louise's
concern for climate earns her a new bike
The sustainability and
climate change exhibition hosted by Birstall
Shopping Park before Easter attracted considerable
interest from the public, and showed the importance
they attach to the environment.
Hundreds of people completed
questionnaires expressing their views and priorities.
The most important environmental
initiative for a household was to increase
recycling, followed by reducing energy use.
Many respondents commented on their concerns
about over packaged products and the over availability
of plastic bags. More plastics recycling facilities
was another popular request.
All respondents' cards
were placed in a box and the card that was
pulled out won a new bike. The winner, Louise
Birkenshaw from Drighlington, was presented
with her bike by Birstall Shopping Park Manager,
Denis Copeland (right) and Operations Manager,
Arfan Hussain (left).
Louise is nearing the
end of her maternity leave, and was thinking
about buying a bike for making the fairly short
journey from her home to where she works. "I
have been putting off the purchase as most
of my disposable income has been going on the
children, and this has come as a very welcome
surprise."
